Dr. Futon`s Homespun Philosophy
Erscheinungstermin: Juni 2011

Beschreibung

Dr Futon’s Homespun Philosophy is a collection of talks by “Dr Futon”, a slightly sad, pompous figure in his late fifties, highly educated, and very middle class, who regrets not having made more of his life.  He spends most of his spare time recording his views on life with the help of his long-standing friend “T-Bito” (That Bloke In The Office).

Dr Futon, who picked up this nick-name by being the archetypal “Barrack-room Lawyer” at work, got engrossed in all the turbulent ideology and social upheaval of the late sixties, never quite finished his law degree, finally ending up in a senior clerical position with the local council in his town in Germany where he settled.  His friend “T” holds a lower position, stems from a working-class background, and despite having gone to a grammar-school, (occasionally), spent his earlier years as a struggling rock guitarist in various “going-nowhere” groups, and now earns his living in an extremely non-“Rock ‘n Roll” job in the same office complex that Futon manages.  Both come from totally different backgrounds, and see the world from different perspectives, but have never-the-less remained loyal friends, each admiring the other for their individual character traits; Dr Futon the quiet well-spoken intellectual, and “T-Bito” with his brash, carefree, “don’t-give-a-damn” attitude towards life which Futon secretly admires.

Futon has no idea about modern technology, and despite owning his own studio, is dependant upon T-Bito who engineers the recordings for him.In the first three volumes, we hear Dr Futon’s sometimes serious, sometimes amusing views, with only the occasional reference to “That bloke in the office”.  In volumes 4 and 5, we at last get to meet “T-Bito” and experience his blatant uncouthness, as he discusses the latest concept with Futon, while they plan the subject-matter for the new Homespun Philosophy recording. The conversation between the two of them is hilarious, as they both try to put the world to rights, yet the inherent intellectual quality of the discourse is never lost, despite it all being very “tongue-in-cheek”.  Both Dr Futon and T-Bito are portrayed by Richard Seaman, himself an accomplished musician, who also composed, played, and recorded the entire incidental backing music.
